This exciting project grew out of an incredibly generous offer of a Collection of Adderley History, which has been made over the last 50 years by Geoff Butter. Geoff grew up and lived in Adderley until very recently.

Offa becomes King of Mercia .
Based around its capital, Tamworth, Mercia was one of the great seven Anglo Saxon kingdoms of England.

Alfred the Great reigns as King of Wessex.
He was the only English Monarch to be awarded the title Great.

Adderley granted a weekly market
In the 13th century Adderley was granted a weekly market on Thursdays and an annual fair on St Peter’s Day. The Normans favoured this saint and he was adopted by Adderley Church.

The Corbet family arrived in Adderley
The Corbet family who arrived in Adderley originated from Brioton and Essay in Normandy

Was a failed attempt to blow up Parliament and assassinate King James 1

St Peters Church
St Peters Church Adderley was built and the tower was added in 1712

The English Civil War
Between Parliament [Roundheads] led by Oliver Cromwell and Royalists [Cavaliers] loyal to the king.The Corbets and the Needhams were on opposing sides.

The Second phase of the Civil War fought between May and August in a series of battles that would lead to the defeat of Charles I who was subsequently executed

The Trustees of the late Sir Corbet Corbet of Adderley signed an agreement for the canal to be dug through the estate

The Shropshire Union Canal which was of great importance to Adderley was opened

26th of July The Red Cross convert Raven House into an Auxiliary Military Hospital for convalescing wounded soldiers.
