As we celebrate 80th anniversary of VE Day, it seems fitting to add a little to the heritage website about the way that Adderley was involved in the Second World War and how we are marking this important anniversary.
This week, Adderley is joining the rest of the UK in ringing the Church Bells at 6.30 pm on Thursday 8th May, as the bells would have rung across the country back in 1945. On Saturday 10th May, there will be a chance to come together, remember and reminisce, for tea or a glass of bubbly and a naughty cream cake in the village hall at 3.00 pm.
There are so many stories, some recorded here already, and so many still to be told, of the memories of people who either lived here during the 1939-45 war or people who have been told stories of parents or grandparents experiences. Most of the details in this post are from items collected by Geoff Butter, but there are one or two stories already such as the life of Christopher Adams, son of our vicar at the time, Rev Adams, which details some of his memories of living at the rectory during the war years.
The Heritage group in partnership with Geoff Butter will be displaying some materials about the war and some photographs that you may enjoy, at the Church and the village hall on the 8th and 10th of May. Why not come down and enjoy looking at them and the various roles that Adderley played in the war?
