Adderley School 1895

Stories to Read

These schoolchildren of bygone age look pretty glum as they pose for the camera

The picture was taken at Adderley School in 1895 and has been loaned  by Mr Thomas Wilshaw, of 18 Puleston, Newport, whose wife’s cousin, the late Mrs Pheobe HuIme, is pictured in the third row, fourth from the left.   Mrs Hulme, whose father was a farm worker in the Adderley area, died in 1977,  aged 92.  She lived in Stoke-on-Trent. But who is the schoolmaster?

Add a Story to the Collection

An important part of our project is to capture the stories and reminiscences of people who live here.  Volunteers who have been trained in taking oral histories, will capture these and the voices of the generations will be captured and held for all to enjoy on the website.
