About
This exciting project grew out of an incredibly generous offer of a Collection of Adderley History, which has been made over the last 50 years by Geoff Butter. Geoff grew up and lived in Adderley until very recently.
The challenge was how to preserve some very special, and very delicate items that Geoff had painstakingly collected. We had no environment of the right quality to preserve them. The result was a bid to Heritage Lottery Fund proposing that we:
- create a website with all the items in a catalogue and the originals preserved by Shropshire Archives to keep them from deteriorating.
- devise a Heritage Trail with signage to the 7 key sites around the village
- capture stories from our community about our history through oral history recordings
- have an ongoing project to photograph every property and street in the village every 5 years to show how our community evolves.
- create a history of St Peter’s Church which has been at the centre of some exciting times in our history
- create a local history society to continue to explore and collect information about our history
